Cheese Monkeys
As a person who tries to think of most situations logically, this piece opened my eyes to a more artistic approach to thinking.  After first reading a few pages I could not figure out how any of what I was reading related to anything else but then about half way through I figured that the piece was just trying to get you to think “outside the box” so to speak.
The one thing I am not sure of is what medium this piece was talking about. Is it just talking about paintings? Or is it trying to tell the reader we can think in a more none linear fashion when using all forms of expression such as writing, poetry or even photography.
THE HERESY OF ZONE DEFENSE
Reading this piece made me think about the sports I play quite a bit. Like the author, I would consider myself to be someone who does not like to follow the rules. However, when it comes to sports the rules are what make the game and I follow the rules very carefully. Basketball happens to be one of the sports I play on a regular basis, but I had never really thought of all the intricacies involved. I have always just thought of it in very simple terms, I always just play with the intent to get the ball in the basket.
When reading this piece I was not sure if the intro about Julies Erving was the authors attempt to teach us something or if that was just a hook to get the reader interested in what the author had to say. I could not think of any deep message in that part of the passage but I am curious to know if there is some there that I missed.
Why Is This Man Smiling?
For some reason reading this passage made me think of Thomas Edison’s famous quote “I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.” I found similarities between Edison’s pursuit of the incandescent light bulb and these artists’ attempts at creating the perfect animated face because they both went through many failures before achieving success. I think that Edison’s quote emphasizes the importance of not giving up when you fail.
The only thing that I really found confusing in this article was the parts that go a little more technical. As someone with no experience in animating I was lost as to what it all meant. For example I was not sure exactly what they were saying when they talked about the percentages of characteristics in a character.
